Donations
Meals on Wheels of Marshalltown (MOW) delivers food 7 days a week to Marshalltown residents who are homebound or unable to prepare meals for themselves due to physical limitations or safety concerns. Meals are prepared by UnityPoint Hospital at a cost to MOW of $4.00 per meal, and that cost is then billed to each client. We realize that this can be a barrier for some clients, so we work with each individual and when possible, reduce the amount the client is asked to pay. Since we still need to pay UnityPoint, the difference must be covered by MOW. We rely on donations from individuals and organizations to cover these amounts. As a volunteer organization and due to reimbursement requirements, we are unable to work with Medicare or Medicaid to assist clients with the cost of the meals at this time.

Volunteer
Volunteers are the heart of the Meals on Wheels program. Volunteers may deliver meals individually, as a family, in pairs, or as a group. Some churches/groups accept responsibility for one or several days each month. Drivers receive training from an experienced driver. Drivers report to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown at 11 a.m. to pick up meals for delivery. Delivery time is approximately one hour. Drivers provide contact with clients when delivering meals.
